Employment Status and Position Key Terms and Data Calculations

The Employment Status and Position Dashboard helps school systems get a snapshot of their workforce composition. By reviewing this data, school systems can identify trends across positions, address staffing gaps, and plan for future recruitment needs.

Key Terms

Teacher

An individual with a Role ID of '087' (Teacher) in at least one PEIMS record in the year of interest

First Year Teacher

Individuals in their first year as a teacher of record in any Texas LEA (no previous data as a teacher of record from 1993-1994 to present).

Re-Enterer

Newly hired teachers who were previously employed as a teacher of record in any Texas LEA at some point from 1993-1994 to present, and who were not employed as a teacher of record in the year immediately preceding the hire year. This category counts both individuals who change roles within the public school system and those that leave the system entirely.

Years of Teaching Experience at Hire

The 'Years of Teaching Experience at Hire' filter is based on years of teaching experience in a public Texas LEA, not years of professional experience. This is a distinction from what is used in TAPR reports.

Data Calculations

Employment Status Through Time

The charts on this page show hire year plus up to five years of retention data. If the selected year does not have five years of retention data, only the available data will be shown.
