Newly Hired Teachers Key Terms and Data Calculations
The Newly Hired Teachers Dashboard helps you track recent hires and understand where new teachers are being placed across your school system. By reviewing this data, you can identify hiring trends, address staffing gaps, and plan for future recruitment needs.
Key Terms
Newly Hired Teachers
Teacher of record who is employed in the LEA in the selected school year but was not employed as a teacher in the LEA in the previous year, based on PEIMS data
Teacher
An individual with a Role ID of '087' (Teacher) in at least one PEIMS record in the year of interest
First Year Teacher
Individuals in their first year as a teacher of record in any Texas LEA (no previous data as a teacher of record from 1993-1994 to present).
Re-Enterer
Newly hired teachers who were previously employed as a teacher of record in any Texas LEA at some point from 1993-1994 to present, and who were not employed as a teacher of record in the year immediately preceding the hire year. This category counts both individuals who change roles within the public school system and those that leave the system entirely.
Years of Teaching Experience at Hire
The 'Years of Teaching Experience at Hire' filter is based on years of teaching experience in a public Texas LEA, not years of professional experience. This is a distinction from what is used in TAPR reports.
Data Calculations
Assignments Calculation
One teacher can have multiple assignments, so counts for ‘Assignments of Newly Hired Teachers’ will not match the counts on the ‘Newly Hired Teachers Summary’ page.
